Fiber & Yarn

So what does one of these fluffy, wooly sheep look like when all the shearing is done?   Well ... why don't you just shear one yourself?  Roll your mouse over the picture to see the before and after effects!  Note --- if you have your computer set up to block active content, you will have to disable or turn that off in order to shear Lilja.

A few fall 09 fleeces still available!

Please call or email to reserve any products you see listed. We can give you a shipping estimate and payment can be made by check or Paypal.

We give our sheep a haircut twice a year, once in the spring and again in the fall following the festivals and fairs.  The lamb fleeces are naturally the softest and most coveted of our fleeces, and are priced accordingly at $22/pound.  Ewe fleeces are $20/pound, others vary according to texture.  The fall fleeces are well skirted and contain very minimal vegetation as our sheep are maintained on pastures year 'round.  We feed hay in winter and spring fleeces are short with limited use, for felting or rug-making.

Our lamb meat and sheepskins are available in limited quantity.  All whole lambs are sold for 2009, however individual cuts, such as legs, ribs, shoulder roasts, ground, and chops are still available for retail sale on the farm .  Please call for availabitiy.   We sold at Delta Farmer's Market this year.  Lamb and sheepskins are all washable and pictured below.

As for the wool, you will find a listing of our most popular fleeces, roving and handspun yarns below.  Pictures and prices are included.  Amanda hand spins yarns in a variety of weights, from bulky to fingering.  Most contain both tog and thel.  It is spun with a light twist into a  soft,  somewhat fuzzy, balanced yarn.  Yarns are avavilable in natural colors (for example black, grey, brown, taupe, cream...) and hand dyed.  Our wool has no chemicals applied before shearing, and only mild detergents are used for washing.  The end product is soft to the touch and not dry.  If you would like to ask us questions about our products, please feel free to email or call us.   Frequently, we will have additional items that are not listed here, or we can provide a custom solution for your fiber needs.  Supplies are limited.

Our daughter, Aleena is a Needle-felting artist and has won awards, attended workshops, and sold her unique creations on commission.  She can help you remember a favorite pet from a photo.  Her birds, squirrels and rabbits have sold at recent fiber festivals.

Coming in Spring:  plans are being made now for our May 2010 booth at Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival.  Two Farms Icelandics (see also Aboundingful Farm) will feature all the following products plus more patterns.  Amanda recently completed the very popular half finger gloves and is working on some other small patterns to try our lovely yarn.   Plan ahead for a lovely spring knitting project.  Two colorways of dyed roving will be available.  These are made from our black and white fleeces so will have a slightly heathered look even though Amanda has chosen very vivid color combinations.
